Ejisu-Juaben NASPA Holds Breast Screening Exercise

The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) of Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly on friday 19th June, 2015 organized a breast screening exercise for national service personnel within the municipality.

The screening exercise which was held at the Ejisu Government hospital was aimed at ensuring that personnel were free from breast cancer and lung diseases.

Addressing the gathering, Madam Hannah Eshun, a matron at the Ejisu Government Hospital educated participants on how to detect breast cancer and also advised people to seek early medical care when detected.

She also advised personnel to always check out for cervical cancer, which is painless, occurs around the womb and may not be noticed by personnel.

Miss Rose Turkson, senior midwifery officer at Ejisu Government Hospital said the cause of breast cancer is yet to be known and therefore doctors should be alerted if anything abnormal is noticed in the breast.

She also said cancer is a very serious disease and can spread within two weeks causing the breast to be cut off.

Miss Lydia Ayeh, a midwifery officer at the Ejisu Government hospital also stressed on the need for personnel to check out for cervical cancer which is very serious and that personnel should always visit Kumasi South Hospital for treatment.

She said people don't have time for themselves that is why cancer spreads easily and that it should be treated with all seriousness.

Mr. Opare K. Emmanuel, NASPA President, said this programme will go a long way to help personnel and as such be taken seriously and given the needed attention.

The programme was sponsored by Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly, Ejisu Government Hospital and BENAK Drinking water.
